People-focused
We have transformed Old Street Station with a landmark new entrance and pedestrianised public realm. The new entrance provides a focal point and grand sense of arrival and departure into and from the new pedestrianised peninsular. The orientation of the entrance maximises the passenger volume, natural daylight transparency and sightlines across the public realm for a high-quality user experience.
Inventive
The station entrance is an elegant glass structure designed with a biodiverse green roof that compliments and bookends the existing tree lined promenade on approach. A sculptural concrete tree structure prefabricated off site supports the green roof and provides a civic focal point at this key junction.
Responsible
The project received TfL’s top award for Outstanding Environmental initiative in 2024. The new station entrance features an extensive green roof, which supports local biodiversity and drains rainwater into a Sustainable Urban Drainage (SuDs) system. Our public realm work incorporates innovative paving that draws in pollution from the air and allows it to be washed harmlessly away.
The design is very impressive and something we will all be proud to deliver.
