Old Street Roundabout transformation promotes sustainable design
The latest report from New London Architecture, Resilient London: confronting climate change, reviews the status of climate resilience strategies and actions plans across the capital, the ability and skills of the built environment industry to build and design for a changing climate, and the barriers that we are facing to implement effective resilience approaches in the capital.
We are proud that our work at Old Street Roundabout is featured as one of the case studies that demonstrates sustainable environmental approaches to design.
The Old Street project converts an existing roundabout island into an urban peninsula with a new entrance for the London Underground. The design incorporates natural and manufactured climate resilience measures such as a flood defence system, materials that enable permeability and provide attenuation, and photocatalytic paving which uses natural daylight to convert harmful NO2 gases into harmless nitrates that are washed into rain gardens.
We are working with engineers WSP and contractors Morgan Sindall to deliver this prestigious project.
