Elizabeth Line one year on
The Elizabeth Line stretches more than 100km from Reading and Heathrow in the west through central tunnels across to Shenfield and Abbey Wood in the east, with one in six of all UK rail journeys now made on the Elizabeth Line, what has been the impact of Europe’s largest construction project?
Expected to serve up to 200 million people each year the Elizabeth Line is a welcome addition to London’s transport infrastructure. From cutting journey times and relieving congestion, to bringing more people than ever within a 45-minute commute of the capital.
One year on since its opening and its success as well as the entire Elizabeth Line is phenomenal and tangible. The Elizabeth line’s income is more than £50m higher than anticipated and TfL expects it to break even by the end of the next financial year.

This project makes an outstanding contribution to the quality and appearance of the built environment, supporting sustainable travel and city regeneration, setting a great benchmark for infrastructure around the world.
We are extremely proud of our contribution of two stations to the line, Paddington and Woolwich, and seeing these stations cherished by the users is testament to our hard work and the amazing teams that made them happen.
