Copenhagen Metro: WW+P joins team proceeding in tender for more metro to Nordhavn

Last summer, five new stations opened on the M4 line in Sydhavn and Valby, and now it is the turn of an extension of the M4 line in Nordhavn with two new stations in the urban development area of Levantkaj and the future center of Outer Nordhavn.

In February this year, Metroselskabet published the tender for the design and construction contact according to the concept of "early contractor involvement". In this form of tendering and contracting, Metroselskabet invites a team consisting of a contractor, engineering consultant and architect to participate in the project planning at an early stage. The aim is to achieve an even better collaboration on the project, minimize the project's climate footprint and ultimately build a better metro for customers and the city.

Six applications were received, and Metroselskabet has now chosen to prequalify three teams that will participate in the competition to design and build the new extension of the line. Our team consists of:

• Acciona Construcción S.A. with Acciona Engineering, Niras, Egis Rail and ourselves. 

The winner of the tender is expected to be found in the autumn of 2025. This is followed by a design phase and the environmental impact assessment. Construction is expected to begin in 2027, and the goal is for the new stations to open to passengers in 2030.

Facts about the tender

• The project is offered under the Utilities Directive in accordance with the procedure known as "competitive dialogue". Competitive dialogue gives the bidders the opportunity to discuss the project's framework with Metroselskabet during the tender period, and Metroselskabet can choose to adapt the framework before the final bids are submitted.
• The project is being tendered as "early contractor involvement" with a design and construction contract. The early involvement will take place in stages, with a collaboration phase and a construction phase. In the collaboration phase, Metroselskabet and the contractor together with their team will develop the project in close cooperation.
• The bidders for the contract will be contractors who form teams consisting of contractor and designers (architects and engineers).
• Metroselskabet announced the tender in February 2025 and expects to award the contract in the second half of 2025.
• When the expansion of M4 to Outer Nordhavn goes into operation, it will be operated by the same operator who at that time has a contract for the M3 and M4 system.
