People-focused
Located directly outside of Neath Train Station, the bus interchange acts as a gateway to the city and provides a great passenger experience. The canopy integrates seamlessly into its context, referencing the datums of surrounding listed buildings; its angled structure bookends the pedestrianised Green Street, encouraging strong pedestrian links and creating a focal point. Visual clutter in elevation is kept to a minimum encouraging intuitive wayfinding, complimenting the local heritage, rather than obscuring it.
Inventive
With a simple, elegant elevation, the design focus is on the 5th elevation: the soffit, an exciting triangular lattice, with rooflights and angled timber elements. A modular design provides economies of scale and efficiency in construction, with opportunity for offsite manufacturing. The user experience alters throughout the day and the year, with the interplay of light and shadow through the skylights creates an ever-changing atmosphere, and the green roof’s planting reflecting seasonality.
