As a major investment priority, Hartlepool Station needed a significant upgrade to provide additional platform capacity. We were commissioned to design upgrades that included bringing a third platform back to use, giving passengers a new entrance and canopy, and upgrading the wayfinding and passenger experience for travellers using the station.
Inventive
We delivered a high-quality architectural scheme while working within a tight budget – an exemplar example of how we provide design excellence alongside a Minimum Viable Product (MVP) strategy. The architecture and station layout design supports TVCA’s wider masterplan objectives, acting as a catalyst to town centre regeneration.
We were really pleased with the designs of Hartlepool Station – and the quality of the finished product exemplified just how good they were. It really did set a fine example for other stations we’re looking to take forward in the region.

A key aspect of our work was agreement of the entrance location to the land that was owned by a third-party developer, and how to mediate the impact on the land. We supported consistent engagement between TVCA and the developer, ensuring a smooth outcome; TVCA found our continual flexibility in design extremely useful in their ongoing discussions.
