People-focused
Forrestfield-Airport Link delivered a new rail service to Forrestfield-Airport and the eastern suburbs of Perth with three new stations. The design at all three stations elevates the passenger experience beyond a commute to an inviting, intuitive, convenient and safe journey. Light, colour, materials, wayfinding ease, public art and integrated technical services are seamlessly combined to create calming station environments.
Inventive
At Airport Central Station the roof’s complex geometry, curved in three different directions, uses aerodynamic references to expand on the idea of travel while performing critical functions. These included preventing glare from impeding control tower operations, accommodating the skylight and access to it, and opening 260-degree views from the mezzanine.
Responsible
The aviation project is a catalyst for significant residential and commercial development in the precincts around the stations, creating opportunities for local business and communities, and reducing congestion along one of Perth’s busiest roads. The stations are designed for comfort and efficiency; a naturally lit and ventilated space has been achieved at all sites.
