People-focused
Edinburgh Waverley Station sits within a UNESCO World Heritage site and is the main gateway to Scotland for residents and tourists alike. We created a transformative, station wide masterplan that made the station easier to move around whilst better integrating it into both the New Town and Old Town of Edinburgh.
Inventive
The design incorporates a series of new mezzanine structures to improve platform accessibility whilst making the passenger journey across the vast station environment as seamless as possible. The mezzanines are carefully stitched into the heritage fabric, beneath the existing ridge and furrow roof, and provide passengers with a brand-new, high-level perspective over the impressive historical fabric.
Responsible
All proposed upgrades are designed to carefully integrate with the heritage structures on site; they celebrate and support what already exists, rather than demolish and start again. The extensive amount of retention and re-use results in a highly sustainable scheme which establishes a clear route to deliver the modern requirements of this outstanding, historical station.
