We created a building that is generously proportioned, light and airy, and simple to navigate. It is fully accessible with step-free access from street to train. The extensive glazing creates views towards the River Thames, and provides shelter for passengers on the elevated platforms.

We used a simple form and materials to enable cost-effective construction while also creating a building with plenty of visual interest. At platform level, faceted and perforated Corten panels screen the viaduct and conceal services, while the exposed roof trusses create a play of light and shadow while also facilitating regular structural inspections.

Barking Riverside Station is central to the development of one of London’s largest new neighbourhoods. Our station serves as a beacon for the Barking Riverside development, connecting the community of 10,800 homes to the London transport network, and acting as a hub for the area’s new healthcare, shopping, community and leisure facilities.
